Handmade Stocking Gifts: Personalized Hats Under $50
Not every gift needs to be the big one. Some of the best handmade gifts are small enough for a stocking — and a knitted hat with a child's name worked into it is one of the most-worn things a baby or toddler will own all winter.

Why hats, especially now
Hats knit up faster than sweaters, so they're the sensible choice if you're ordering close to a deadline. They're still hand-knitted to order with the name knitted in — just in less time.
Why a name hat makes such a good small gift
- It gets worn constantly. A baby's hat goes on every time they go outside, from October to March.
- It's in every photo. Hats frame the face, so a name hat ends up in more winter pictures than almost anything else they own.
- The name is knitted in. Not printed or embroidered on afterwards — so it won't crack, peel or fade.
- It's forgiving on size. Knitted hats stretch, so a hat fits for longer than most baby clothes.

Choosing a size
Hats are sized by head circumference, from Preemie up to Adult. The one rule worth remembering: knitted hats stretch, so if you're between sizes, take the larger one. It will still fit today, and it will fit for longer.
For a baby, think about how old they'll be when they're actually wearing it — a hat bought in November gets most of its wear in January and February. Full measurements are in our size guide.
Before you order
Every hat is knitted for one specific name, so a wrong size can't be exchanged. If you're unsure, send us the child's age and we'll tell you which size to order.
Choosing colors
Every hat comes in 24 colors, and you choose the hat color and the name color separately. A dark hat with a bright name reads best in photos; a light hat with a soft name is lovely on a newborn. Ordering a hat to go with a sweater? Use the same two colors, reversed.
The late-order answer
Because hats knit up faster than sweaters, a name hat is the best choice if you've left a gift late. For Christmas, sweaters should be ordered by 29 November — if you're past that, message us with the date you need it by before ordering, and we'll give you a straight answer on whether a hat can make it.
